Female empowerment is a key and increasingly recurring concept for musical artists today. This means that women have the ability to make meaningful decisions regarding their musical careers and express their voice in ways that allow them to achieve success in the world of music. Female empowerment also means that women must have a platform to share their stories and tell their experiences from a female perspective, so that their voice is heard. And this does not escape the concept of SAFIRE, our interviewee today.
SAFIRE is an independent artist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, born in Hackney (north east London) and based in Brighton. She’s racked up 3 songs, since her first release in 2022, to date, but she’s already garnering a huge following with her focus on female empowerment, dominance, and sexuality. With a musical proposal that focuses on alternative Metal, and Alt pop.
She has worked with artists and producers such as Dan Weller (Holding Absence, The Amazons, ZAND), Tylr Rydr (Cassyette, Bambi Thug, James Indigo) and Kai Smith (Anne Marie, Dua Lipa, AlienBlaze).
But let it be SAFIRE’s own words, who best explain his musical proposal
How does SAFIRE start in music? Is it recent or is it a passion from years ago?
I’ve always been creating music but I started writing for this project and conceptualising it during the lockdown. Both of my parents are musicians so you could say it’s in the blood!
Let’s talk about your music. How did you create your musical and artistic concept? What inspired you?
I’m inspired by vampire movies/books, history and battles/war. Musically, I’ve always been into Hardcore Punk/Metal, Pop, RnB and EDM/D&B. My music reflects my interests and I often talk about experiences and thoughts. A lot of what I’m saying are self affirmations/mantras. The idea of inspiring someone else or being able to uplift and energise someone inspires me. I love the idea of connecting with someone energetically that I’ve never met. That’s magic!
In your first 2 singles «released last year, «OUT FOR BLOOD» and «SHINE B!TCH» the feminine power is strongly felt as a message. Is this intentional or is it part of SAFIRE’s innate muse?
I am a powerful woman with a lot of life experience and I think that naturally comes through in the message/vibe of my music. I make music to energise and uplift myself and my audience so that much is thought out. I’m glad that’s the way my tracks are being received and there will be a LOT more of that to come in the EP I’m working on right now.
Now let’s talk about your most recent single «Angels & Demons» you can tell a change to a more melodic sound, does this set the tone for what we’re going to hear from SAFIRE next?
I tend to sing when I have something close to my heart or incredibly emotional to share. I’m a genre fluid artist and I just create the music I feel like making so you can expect the unexpected.
After talking about your songs and having understood your way of creating music, I would like to know what music is for you?
Music is consistency. Something that’s always there and that allows me to share parts of myself with the rest of the world that may not be so eloquently transcribed otherwise. Singing feels incredible. There’s no feeling that matches the purity of singing/dancing. And music is also a way of having fun and creating something from nothing which is always an incredible feeling and experience.
